Hall of Fame center Jean Ratelle was awarded this Bulova watch by The Sporting News due to their recognition of him as the 1971-72 NHL East Division Player of the Year. Ratelle, an All-Star that season, led the New York Rangers to the Stanley Cup Finals that season, where they were defeated by Bobby Orr and the Boston Bruins. Ratelle finished the season with 46 goals and 63 assists in only 63 games. He won the 1971-72 Lester B. Pearson Award (now known as the Ted Lindsay Award), which is given out to the most outstanding player as judged by the NHL Players association, as well as the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. Ratelle was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 1985.
This gold-colored watch has an 18 ct gold electroplate bezel and a 10 ct rolled gold plate back. The back is engraved with “The Sporting News/Jean Ratelle/NHL East Player of the Year 1971-72”. The hands and face of this watch are also colored gold. This item comes with a Letter of Provenance from Ratelle himself.
