Presented is the official program from the Joe Frazier vs. Muhammad Ali heavyweight boxing championship fight at Madison Square Garden in New York City, March 8, 1971. The 52-page, 8 ½ x 11 inch color program features the legend “Fight of the Champions” across the top of the cover with a posed color photo of Joe Frazier (at left) and Muhammad Ali (at right) from their weigh in. The interior pages provide a “History of Boxing and the Heavyweight Championship,” as well as bio sketches and statistics for Frazier and Ali, a feature story about “How the Fight was Put Together” and bio sketches of ring announces Burt Lancaster and Don Dunphy. There is also a section titled “Gallery of the World Heavyweight Champions” from John L. Sullivan to Sonny Liston. The bout between Frazier and Ali that night became known as “The Fight of the Century,” as it was the first time that two undefeated boxers fought each other for the heavyweight title. Frazier, 26-0 with 23 Kos, was the WBC/WBA heavyweight champ, while Ali, 31-0, 25 Kos, was the Ring Magazine/lineal heavyweight champ. Frazier won in 15 rounds via unanimous decision. This program is in good condition.
