Hall of Famer Rich “Goose” Gossage will best be remembered as an intimating closer, spanning 22 years, recording 310 saves with the Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, Oakland A’s and Seattle Mariners. Gossage recording his first career victory on May 29th, 1972, while a member of the Chicago White Sox in the first game of a double-header. Gossage pitched two and two-thirds scoreless innings with two strikeouts to earn the White Sox a 5-4 victory at Anaheim Stadium over the California Angels.
Offered is one of the baseballs used during Gossage’s first career victory. This Official American League Joseph E. Cronin stamped baseball displays outstanding use with dirt stains and other markings consistent with game use. Gossage signed his name in bold blue marker and inscribed “HOF 2008”. There are inscriptions in red marker that read “5/29/72”, “Anaheim Stadium” and “1ST MAJOR LEAGUE WIN”. This item comes with a LOA from Goose Gossage, attesting that this baseball belonged “solely to my family and myself.”
