On October 24th, 1972 the incomparable Jackie Robinson passed away at the age of 53. The Hall of Fame second baseman left behind an expansive legacy of athletic excellence and civil service.
Presented here is the memorial services booklet from his funeral, held on October 27th at Riverside Church in New York. Numerous influential public figures, such as Rev. Jesse Jackson spoke at the funeral, and the legendary Roberta Flack performed. Robinson’s pallbearers included many of his Brooklyn teammates, such as Jim Gilliam, Pee Wee Reese, and Ralph Branca. Larry Doby, Bill Russell, and Monte Irvin were additional pallbearers. This program is a touching and heartfelt relic from the life of one of America’s greatest heroes.
