Former New York Met Tommie Agee, the catalyst of the 1969 World Series winning team, wore this Mets road jersey during the 1972 MLB season. A center fielder that could hit for power, but usually found himself leading off. Agee played five seasons with the Mets with his final campaign coming in ’72. Best remembered for his heroics in Game 3 of the ’69 Fall Classic, Agee is one of the most beloved and popular Mets from the ’69 team.
This Wilson gray knit jersey features “Mets” sewn across the front in blue and orange tackle twill. According to jersey authenticator Dave Miedema, this jersey was recycled in the minor leagues, where the front was changed from “NEW YORK” to “Mets”. Agee’s number “20” is sewn on the front and back of the jersey in blue and orange tackle twill. A Mets skyline logo patch has been sewn on the left sleeve, while a Gil Hodges memorial armband has since been removed. A Wilson size “46” tag is sewn on the front left tail of this jersey, while a “20 46 72” tag is sewn on the back inside collar. “S” is written in black marker beneath the collar tag. Agee signed the chest of this jersey in black marker. This jersey shows moderate wear, and comes with a COA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (C03619) for the signature and a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema for the game use.
