In 1972, Hall of Famer Willie Mays was traded back to the city where he began his historic career. The San Francisco Giants traded Mays to the New York Mets in May of 1972 and he spent the rest of that season and 1973 with the Mets before retiring from baseball. 1972 also saw selected to his 23rd All-Star team as he represented the New York Mets at the 1972 Mid-Summer Classic held in Atlanta.

Offered here is one of Mays’ Hillerich & Bradsby S2 model bats that was ordered by Mays for the 1972 All-Star Game in Atlanta and was made game ready. This beautifully toned bat has “ALL STAR GAME WILLIE MAYS ATLANTA-1972” boldly stamped on the barrel. The knob has “S2” stamped and Mays’ number “24” handwritten in black marker. The bat does not display any use and Mays has signed his name in black marker across the barrel. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B19198) who authenticates that this bat was ordered by Mays and made game ready for the 1972 All-Star Game. Additionally, there is a LOA from JSA for the signature.
