He was flashy, a little rebellious and a winner. From the moment he took the New York Jets to an unexpected Super Bowl Championship, Joe Namath became the face of the modern NFL. He was the rare new hero who lived up to the hype: Rookie of the Year, Super Bowl MVP, 4-time All-Star, and 2-time league MVP. When he was injured during the 1973 season, he rebounded to win the Comeback Player of the Year Award in 1974. During the early 1970’s, he became the first football player to successfully turn his on-field exploits into a mega-brand, encompassing everything from TV commercials and acting to nightclub ownership and broadcasting.

Offered is this New York Jets road jersey that dates to the 1973-1975 period when the name Joe Namath meant football. This Champion mesh jersey is correct for the early 1970’s period. The front has Namath’s number “12” in green applique lettering with green and white striped sleeves. A Champion size L label is sewn in the bottom left front tail with his number “12” hand written in black marker. The back has “NAMATH” and his number “12” applied directly to the jersey in green applique. The jersey has a factory sewn crotch piece with three buttons. The jersey shows moderate game use with heavier wear in the neck area and on the crotch piece. This jersey comes with an LOA from MEARS (313217) for the game use and has been graded a solid A8. There is also a LOA from JSA (Z78169) for the signature.
