Oakland Athletics star Gene Tenace wore this green alternate A’s jersey during the 1973 MLB season. Tenace, the 1972 World Series MVP, had a breakout season, playing a full year for the first time in his career. Tenace crushed 24 homers to go with 84 RBI and 101 walks as the A’s won 94 games and the American League West title. The A’s beat the Baltimore Orioles in five games in the American League Championship Series before defeating the Mets in a seven game World Series to earn their second consecutive title.
This green pullover jersey has “A’s” sewn on the chest in white and yellow tackle twill. Please note that the “A’s” has been restored. “TENACE” is sewn across the back shoulders in white tackle twill, with his number “18” sewn below in white and yellow tackle twill. The sleeves of this jersey are accented with yellow and green stripes, and a yellow-white-yellow band accents the collar. “1973”, size “42”, and McAuliffe tags are sewn on the front inside tail of this jersey. This jersey shows evidence of heavy use and comes with a LOA from MEARS, who have graded the jersey an excellent A9.
