The Gold Glove Award is the ultimate acknowledgement of a ballplayer's fielding ability and in 1974 George Scott was the judged the best first baseman in the American league. Scott's flawless fielding combined with his .281 average bat and 82 RBI were keys for the Milwaukee Brewers. This was Scott’s sixth Gold Glove Award. The front of this award reads “1974 RAWLINGS GOLD GLOVE AWARD PRESENTED TO GEORGE SCOTT FIRST BASE 6TH AWARD Honoring His Selection To The Sporting News American League All-Star Fielding Team.” This glimmering and iconic 17 x 16-inch trophy displays a gold-painted Rawlings Major League All-Star Fielding Team glove mounted on a solid Oak platform featuring a portrait of Scott etched into a metallic gold colored plate with a pair of gold painted Rawlings baseballs supported by tripods of miniature golden bats on either side above the nameplate adorned with the familiar red Rawlings logo under each ball. There is some tarnish on the gold-colored baseballs, some edge wear on the wood base and some marks on the gold panels. Vintage Gold Glove Awards rarely make it into the hobby and this is all the more desirable as originates from the mid-1970’s.
