On August 9, 1974, President Richard M. Nixon resigned his office and left government service, the first sitting president to ever resign in the wake of the Watergate investigations and the threat of Congressional impeachment. The 37th president of the United States from 1969 until his resignation in 1974, Nixon previously served as the nation's 36th vice president from 1953 to 1961 under President Eisenhower, and as a representative and senator from California.
Offered is a Richard Nixon signature on a typed letter of resignation dated August 9, 1974 on White House stationery. Nixon has signed his name in blue pen on the 5¼ x 8-inch ivory letterhead addressed to Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. Above the signed, typed letter is an 8 x 10-inch color head and shoulder portrait photograph of Nixon taken during his presidency. The letter and photo are mounted in a blue paper matte with white borders and displayed in an 11 x 13-inch gold wood and glass frame. This signature comes with a full LOA from JSA (B28116).
