The Cincinnati Reds teams of the mid-1970’s, known as “The Big Red Machine”, were one of the greatest baseball dynasties since the Murderer’s Row Yankees of the 1920s. Led by Joe Morgan, a two-time NL MVP, his fellow Hall of Famers Johnny Bench and Tony Perez, and baseball’s hit king Pete Rose, the Reds won World Series titles in 1975 and 1976, as well as winning pennants in 1970 and 1972. This flag commemorates the Sparky Anderson managed 1975 Reds team, which finished the regular season with a record of 108-54. In the playoffs, the Reds knocked out the Pittsburgh Pirates in three games before handling the Red Sox in seven. Joe Morgan was the National League MVP this season, Pete Rose eclipsed the 200 hit mark for the seventh time, and Johnny Bench paced the team with 28 home runs.

This flag, which measures approximately 47 x 29 ½ inches at its widest dimensions, features a large Reds wishbone “C” logo and red text that reads “1975 WORLD CHAMPS”. It is double sided with the reverse having “1975 WORLD CHAMPS” and the Reds wishbone “C” logo. The banner hung at Riverfront Stadium and is in good overall condition, displaying only minor toning, edge wear and crease marks where it was folded. Also included in this lot is a July 16, 1956 Sports Illustrated edition with the pictures of Wally Post, Ted Kluszewski and Gus Bell. All three men have signed their name in blue pen on their images and this edition has been framed and matted to a dimension of 11 ¼ x 14 ¼ inches. This signed magazine comes with a LOA from JSA (BB41490) for the signatures.
