Presented here is an original fight poster by sports artist LeRoy Neiman, of the famous third bout between Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali known only as “The Thrilla in Manilla”. The name was coined because of Ali’s frequent rhyming schemes whenever asked about the fight, the fight would be a “Killa and a thrilla and a chilla, when I get that gorilla in Manila”. The trilogy began when Joe Frazier upset Muhammad Ali, breaking his 31 fight win streak on March 8, 1971. The two would rematch again in January 8, 1974, that saw Ali become the victor. The fight arena was chosen to be in Manila, Philippines, and took place September 30, 1975, which would ultimately see Ali become the victor, after Frazier’s corner stopped the bout in between the 14th and 15th round. The featured poster used the artwork by LeRoy Neiman, in typical Neiman fashion. The poster is both matted and framed and stands 22 x 30 inches. LeRoy Neiman has autographed the piece over Frazier’s shoulder, inscribing “06”. Ali’s signature can be found on the upper left in bold black ink. This piece comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (AB11571).
