After several seasons of futility followed by a major retooling, the New York Yankees were finally able to field a pennant winner again. A big, if not the biggest, part of the Yankees resurgence was their burly catcher, Thurman Munson. His leadership behind the plate and in the locker room complimented his big bat, and the Yanks were able to build a team around their dependable backstop, culminating in three consecutive pennants and back-to-back World Championships from 1976 through 1978.

This offered bat was used by the Yanks’ captain during the 1976-1977 seasons – and how do we know that? Besides the bat style and branding indicating that timeframe, this Munson gamer comes with impeccable provenance from Gene Locklear, Munson’s teammate on the 1977 World Champion Yankees. The Adirondack 257 model bat shows light game use and is un-cracked. There is a small chip/indentation found on the handle. The barrel has several ball marks and scuffs along with bat rack paint streaks and cleat imprints. The model number “257A” has been stamped into the knob and Munson’s number “15” and the length “34” has been hand written in black marker. The bat comes with the signed Letter of Provenance from Gene Locklear and a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B13279) for the game use and has been graded a GU 7.5.
