The Hillerich & Bradsby R161 model bat had the 1976-only Bicentennial logo stamped in the barrel and displays tremendous use. Though it is a Willie Randolph model bat, Thurman Munson, the big Yankee catcher decided he liked the bat and appropriated it for himself, courtesy of Randolph. Munson used it in games during the summer of 1976 until he cracked the handle, whereupon he returned it to Randolph! The barrel shows many ball marks along with checking from repeated ball contact. The handle has been taped to enhance the grip, but this feature has become unraveled in parts. Munson’s number has been handwritten on the knob in faded black marker and there are scuffs and abrasions throughout. To say this bat was a favorite of Munson’s would be an understatement! This bat comes directly from the collection of Willie Randolph and a signed LOA from Willie Randolph will accompany this item. This bat also comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B18044) for the game use.
