Up until he retired at the age of 38, Gary Carter was known to fans and teammates as “The Kid.” This game used bat dates to the 1977-79 seasons when Carter was in his early twenties and truly was a kid. During those three years he hit a combined 73 home runs and batted .274. This Hillerich & Bradsby P89 model bat is dated to the 1977-79 seasons and shows moderate use and is cracked. There are several ball marks and abrasions on the barrel. Carter’s number “8” is hand written on the knob and the Hall of Famer has signed the barrel in black ink, adding, “To Kim Best Wishes God Bless.” The bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B09195) for the game use and has been graded a near-perfect GU 9, plus a LOA from JSA (Z59966) for the signature.
