Even at ages 35 Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach was still slinging it for the Dallas Cowboys in 1977 where he led the Cowboys to 12-2 record. The 1977 season saw Staubach and the Cowboys with the second best scoring offense in the NFL and Staubach led Dallas to victories over the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings in the NFC playoffs before knocking off the Denver Broncos 27-10 in Super Bowl XII.

Offered here is the classic white mesh Dallas Cowboys primary jersey that has been dated to the 1977-78 season. This jersey displays heavy game use. This size 44 L jersey was manufactured by Southland Athletic MFG. Co. of Terrell, Texas. Staubach’s iconic number “12” is screen-printed on the front, back and shoulders in blue. “STAUBACH” is screen-printed in blue a matching white mesh nameplate that is sewn on the back above the number. The sleeves have two blue stripes with black borders. The heavy use on this jersey is reflected in the slight tear of the V-neck collar base, along with other stains and abrasion marks. Jersey is beautifully signed with a vintage autograph on the back above the nameplate. (His signature today would look different as he changed his just like Mantle).

While we are boasting, we will also mention that this jersey will come with a video clip of the man himself Roger Staubach Holding the jersey you are bidding on, explaining 'This is my jersey, this is my signature on my jersey, and I used to cut my sleeves like this because I didn't want anything getting near my elbows'. Staubach is one of the greatest and most popular players ever to take the field, and authentic game used items from him are very rare. Listed below are some highlights from the MEARS LOA detailing the jersey and game use. Full LOA is available online. " Southland Tag applied in the collar: Southland tagging was found both on the bottom tail and in the collar of Southland supplied uniforms. This was an important fact as it aided in the dating of the jersey. Earlier examples found tagging in the tail, and post 1979 jerseys again found tagging in the tail. We found a 1976 circa Pearson Road jersey with collar tagging, which supports this dating range as acceptable for collar tag placement. Shoulder numerals: Examination reveals the shoulder numbers sit high on the shoulder, an extended distance from the sleeves. This was photographically supported during 1977 & 1978, images included. Name Plate (STAUBACH): Images examined reveal the font of STAUBACH is consistent with team lettering during the 1977-78 era. Game Wear: Jersey exhibits heavy game wear. Internal examination reveals even toning to the inner fabric and all stitching. There is also a consistent internal wear which is visible on the inside tagging and overall body shell. The outer shell also shows even toning, and moderate to heavy game wear. Compressions can be seen to the entire outer fabric of the body shell. The areas of the neck and right arm show heavy signs of wear, which is consistent with a starting quarterback’s game worn jersey. The neck and both sleeves have been cut, (as a customization), and have fraying to the loose threads consistent with wash and game wear. The nameplate is original and shows no signs of restoration. Jersey is autographed on reverse above the nameplate in blue sharpie marker. Final Grade: 10 base points were assigned for jersey being consistent with manufacturer, size, front /reverse font, nameplate, sleeve styles, shoulder style, and exhibits moderate/heavy game wear. No points were deducted. Final Grade: (MEARS A10)." You will not find a better Roger Staubach gamer than this. The jersey comes with a LOA from MEARS (312574) grading it a perfect A10, and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (S12340) for the autograph. We have been told by MEARS that this is the finest Staubach game worn jersey that they have ever seen.
