The fiery Lou Piniella proved to be a solid acquisition for the New York Yankees as they began to emerge from their late 1960’s and early 1970’s swoon. Piniella was a key contributor to the late 1970’s teams that won three straight American League pennants and two consecutive World Series titles. Presented here is Piniella’s Hillerich & Bradsby S2 model bat that was used during the 1977-79 labeling period – a period that covered the back-to-back World Series titles won by the Yankees in 1977 and 1978. This bat displays good game use and is un-cracked. There are ball marks, stitch impressions and bat rack streaks present on the barrel. The handle has a light coating of pine tar and Piniella’s number “14” is handwritten in black marker on the knob, along with other handwritten markings. Piniella has signed this bat in blue marker on the barrel. This bat comes with a STICKER ONLY from PSA/DNA (1B13006) for the game use and a LOA from Beckett Authentication (G15995) for the signature.
