Archie Manning was selected as the second overall pick in the 1971 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, where he played the next 10 seasons. Although the Saints were mired in a long era of inadequacy, Manning became beloved in New Orleans thanks to his resilience, poise, and skill. Manning wore this size 48 Russell Athletic black New Orleans Saints jersey during the 1977 season and has been specifically photo matched to the November 20th, 1977 game against the Atlanta Falcons at the Super Dome. This jersey features Manning’s number “8” screen-printed on the front, back and sleeves in white and gold. The Russell Athletic size 46 tag is sewn on the bottom of the front left tail. This jersey is made of a lightweight cotton/nylon blend and the sleeves have gold and white stripes screen-printed on the ends.
“MANNING” has been screen-printed in white on the back of the jersey above his number and the application was made over the horizontal seem in the jersey making it appear as if a black line is running through his name. This jersey displays heavy game use with a large team repair on the back of the jersey on the left side of the number “8”. The black color of the jersey also displays fading due to what was most likely numerous washings and the cotton/nylon material. Manning has signed his name in black marker on the top of the “8” on the back of the jersey. This jersey has been photo matched by Resolution Photomatching to the November 20th, 1977 game and have provided a corresponding LOA (426188) and a Steiner Sports hologram for Manning’s signature.
