A high-flying shooting guard out of Louisiana State University, “Pistol” Pete Maravich was one of basketball’s most lethal scorers. Playing for his father, Press, at LSU, Maravich averaged an incredible 44.2 points per game in his three years of NCAA ball – this was before the three-point line and the shot clock. He continued his torrid scoring in the pros, where he averaged over 24 points per game in an abbreviated 10-season career. Maravich was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987. Tragically, Maravich died of heart failure at the young age of 40 in 1988.
