Although primarily known as a closer, Dennis Eckersley began his career as an ace starting pitcher with the Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox. The Hall of Famer’s best season as a starter came in 1978, when “Eck” compiled a 20-8 record as the 23-year old ace of the Boston staff. With a miniscule era of 2.99, Eckersley finished fourth in the American League Cy Young Award race.

This off-white size 44 McAuliffe pullover home jersey was worn by Eckersley during the 1978 Boston Red Sox season. “RED SOX” is sewn across the chest in red-on-navy blue tackle twill. Eckersley’s number “43” is sewn on the back in red-on-navy blue tackle twill. The collar is red and navy. A McAuliffe size “44” tag is sewn on the back inside collar. A “1978” tag is sewn on the bottom front center of the jersey. This jersey shows excellent evidence of game use, especially around the collar and shoulders. The white color of this jersey has toned slightly to a cream color. This item comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
