The 1978 New York Yankees, led by the one-two pitching punch of 20-game-winners Ron Guidry and Ed Figueroa, won 100 games in the regular season. None of these wins were more exciting than the 100th, which came in the 163rd game of the Yankees’ season. Facing the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in a one-game playoff to reach the postseason, the Yankees triumphed after slight shortstop Bucky Dent hit a rare home run against Red Sox starter and former Yankee Mike Torrez. In the postseason, the Yanks defeated the Royals in a four game American League Championship Series, setting up a Fall Classic rematch against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Yankees eased to a second-consecutive six-game World Series victory, with October hero Bucky Dent earning World Series MVP honors.

Fashioned on a 7-inch diameter black base, this offered World Series trophy has a gold-plated band inscribed with “WORLD CHAMPIONS/NEW YORK YANKEES/1978”. 26 bronze flagpoles topped with the names of each of the MLB teams, with the AL teams on the left and the NL teams on the right in alphabetical order starting with the Baltimore Orioles on the left and the Atlanta Braves on the right from the base. Two World Series press pins representing the Dodgers and Yankees are fastened to the base. Inside the circle of mini flags sits a bronze ring, anchored with a silver baseball and topped with a gold crown. The trophy is in excellent condition with just light wear (mostly on the silver baseball) from age and display. A significant piece of World Series history!
