In 1977, Willie McCovey returned to where it all started for him back in 1959 - San Francisco. The Hall of Fame-bound first baseman came home as the newest member of the 500 Home Run Club and spent the next three years hitting the last of his eventual 521 career homers.

This vivid orange pullover was worn by McCovey during the 1979 season when he hit home runs 506 through 520. The vibrant orange knit jersey has the script “Giants” and McCovey’s number “44” on the front in black and white tackle twill. An orange strip tag with “44 79” is sewn in the lower left front tail. The collar and sleeve openings are trimmed in black, orange and white ribbing. Wilson size “44” label is sewn inside the collar, slightly torn but still intact. The back has “McCOVEY” across the shoulders in black and white tackle twill on a matching orange nameplate and his number “44” below in black and white tackle twill. As this was an alternate jersey, it is well-preserved with just moderate wear. There are no rips or staining visible and just a few loose threads on the lettering which has negligible puckering from laundering. The color remains as vibrant as it was when McCovey wore it back in 1979. This jersey comes with a full LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema for the game use.
