Although Kansas City fans knew their third baseman was the best the game has seen in many generations, it was during the summer of 1980 in which Brett became a national superstar. Shattering the record for the single season batting average by a third baseman with an astonishing .390, Brett's star-status was validated by being selected as the AL's 1980 MVP. The Royals rode Brett's magnificent season into the playoffs, sweeping the dreaded Yankees in 3 games. This iconic Royals road jersey and pants were worn during that majestic summer. The Wilson powder blue knit v-neck jersey has "KANSAS CITY" across the chest in white tackle twill and navy and white raglan trim along the collar and sleeve ends. The back has "BRETT" and his number "5" in white tackle twill. The left sleeve features the round Royals "KC" shield patch. Size "42" Wilson label is sewn inside the collar and powder blue year tagging with "80" stitched in navy blue is sewn below. The jersey shows moderate game use with the various stains and marks a good game used jersey should show. The front left area below the city name shows a generous amount of wear to the knit material. This jersey is accompanied by Brett's size 33 pants as well. The powder blue Wilson pants carries the company label in the navy and white waistband with size "33" embroidered on it and a power blue strip tag has "5", "80" and "25" in navy blue embroidery. The pants show moderate wear with some areas of the knit such as on the thighs and seat, showing more wear than the rest. The pants still retain the original waist drawstring and both pocket buttons. Overall, as perfect as a game used uniform can get, and all the more desirable since it dates from the finest year of one of the greatest third basemen in the history of the game. Uniform set is accompanied by Letter of Authenticity from MEARS who have given this uniform set a perfect grade of A10.
