Already a star with the San Diego Padres, Dave Winfield earned super-star status when he joined George Steinbrenner's New York Yankees in 1981. His unprecedented contract made him the highest paid player in the game and he proved he was worth every cent when he batted .285 and hit 82 home runs over the next three years. This offered Louisville Slugger W273 model bat displays heavy use with a handle crack and has been dated to use by Winfield during the 1980-83 seasons. The barrel shows many ball marks with stitch impressions along with cleat imprints and abrasions from contact with other bats. The handle has been taped in several rings of adhesive tape to enhance the grip and a coat of pine tar is still present on the handle. This bat comes with an LOA from PSA/DNA (1B15742) for the game use.
