After being traded by the New York Yankees in 1975, Bobby Murcer was traded back to the Bronx in June of 1979 and finished his career with the Yankees in 1983. Unlike his previous stint, Murcer wore number “2” as manager Billy Martin occupied number “1” when he returned in 1979 and he continued to wear number “2” even after Martin’s dismissal following the 1979 season.

Offered is this Wilson size 42 road gray button-down knit jersey that was worn by Murcer during the 1980 season and features “NEW YORK” sewn on in navy and white tackle twill across the chest and Murcer’s “2” sewn on the back in the same color pattern. Murcer played in 100 games during the 1980 season, where he belted 13 home runs, drove in 57 and maintained a solid .269 batting average as the Yankees were champions of the American League East. The sleeves have a navy and white striped ribbed material that caps the sleeves and the inside collar and buttons have an off-white inner lining. The team strip tag is sewn on in gray on the inside back collar and is embroidered in black “Murcer 80 2” indicating the player, year and set number of the jersey. This jersey shows moderate to heavy game use with staining on the numbers and also displays the markings where the Thurman Munson memorial armband was removed from the left sleeve following the 1979 season, which was customary for 1980 Yankees jerseys.
