Linebacker Mike Singletary enjoyed a Hall of Fame NFL career, but before he was winning a Super Bowl with the Bears in Chicago, he was starring for another Bears team – at Baylor University. Singletary played for the Baylor Bears from 1977-1980 and was a consensus All-American in both 1979 and 1980. In the 1980 season, his Baylor team posted a perfect 8-0 record in Southwest Conference play, winning the conference championship. Baylor finished the regular season 10-1 before a Cotton Bowl loss to Alabama.
Presented here is a Balfour manufactured 1980 Baylor Bears Southwest Conference Championship ring, personally owned by Singletary. The face features the letters “BU” on a football-shaped image, with CZs on each side. Relief work reads “S.W.C. CHAMPIONS” with the numbers that make up the year 1980 being individually listed over four corners. A Baylor football helmet centers the left shank, with the name “SINGLETARY” in a banner above, and “8-0” in a football image below. The opposite shank showcases a Bears logo below a building, with “BAYLOR” and the number 23 displayed at the top in a banner. Inside of the band is marked “BALFOUR CELESTRIUM” and also is engraved “All American”. This ring weighs approximately 26.8 grams with the size being an approximate 13. Comes with a Singletary LOA.
