Presented here is a very rare championship ring from the old American Football Association. The 1980 champions were the West Virginia Rockets, who had a 7-4 regular season before knocking off the Shreveport Steamer and then the Carolina Chargers in the American Bowl on September 7th, 1980 by a score of 42-18. This ring was presented to offensive guard Jim Schultz and is made of silver and has a blue stone in the center with “A.F.A.” on the top and “CHAMPIONS” on the bottom in raised lettering. “WEST VIRGINA ROCKETS” directly surround the blue stone. The left shank has a raised banner that reads “AMERICAN BOWL” on the top, an image of a football stadium in the center and “W.VIRGINIA 42 CAROLINA 18” in raised lettering below. The opposite shank has “JIM SCHULTZ” on a banner with the Rockets’ helmet and logo and a football below with “OG”. The inside band has “ARGENTUS” engraved. This ring is a size 11 ½ and weighs approximately 24.10 grams.
