     The 1980 Philadelphia Phillies captured the team’s first World Series championship in its 97 year history. Led by slugger Mike Schmidt and wily veteran Pete Rose, the Phillies won the National League East title by only one game, setting up an NLCS battle against Houston Astros. The Phillies won this series in a full five games, sending them through to face the Kansas City Royal in the World Series. The Phillies defeated the Royals in six games, with closer Tug McGraw striking out Willie Wilson to end the series in what is still the most watched game in World Series history.

     27 members of the 1980 Phillies signed this Bowie Kuhn Official 1980 World Series baseball, including Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton. Manager Dallas Green signed the sweet spot in black marker. Other signatures include Pete Rose, Larry Bowa, Bake McBride, George Vukovich, Billy DeMars, Marty Bystrom, Garry Maddox, Ramon Aviles, Keith Moreland, Greg Gross, Nino Espinosa, Bob Walk, Manny Trillo, Lee Elia, Herm Starrette, and several more. The signatures have been written in black and blue pen. This item comes with a LOA from Lee Elia, a coach on the 1980 Phillies.
