The 1981 season will be remembered for the players’ strike that saw the cancellation of 713 games of the regular season. Pete Rose was making his way up the hit list and next on his target was Hall of Famer Stan Musial. The last game the Phillies played before the Players’ Strike was on June 10th against Nolan Ryan and the Houston Astros. Rose singled off of Ryan in the bottom of the first inning to tie Stan Musial on the all-time hits list with 3,630. This offered Official National League Charles S. Feeney baseball was the ball Rose hit to tie Musial. This historic ball shows extensive wear, with abrasion and dirt rub marks. Rose signed his name in blue marker on the side panel to the right of the stamped sweet spot and inscribed “To Barry Halper Best Wishes To My Friend” and on the opposite side panel he inscribed “3630 HIT 6-10-81 PITCHER NOLAN RYAN”. This ball comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA for Rose’s signature and inscriptions.
