Hall of Famer Steve Carlton was once again the ace of the Philadelphia Phillies staff during the 1981 season. Because of the Players’ Strike, the 1981 season was shortened and ultimately split into two halves. Carlton, whose career included four Cy Young Awards, finished the full season with a 13-4 record and 2.42 ERA as he finished third in the NL Cy Young Award vote behind Fernando Valenzuela and Tom Seaver, helped lead the Phillies to the playoffs, winning the first half of the National League East with a 34-21 record.

This offered Philadelphia Phillies powder blue road jersey was worn by Steve Carlton during the 1981 season. This jersey has a zipper-down front and is a size 46. The Phillies “P” is sewn on in maroon and white tackle twill on the upper left chest. Carlton’s number “32” is sewn on in the same maroon and white tackle twill on the front right center. The Wilson size 46 tag and a powder blue patch with “81 1” is sewn on the bottom front left tail. The placket of this jersey is lined with matching powder “silk-type fabric” for player comfort and a powder blue patch is sewn on the inside back collar that reads “Carlton”.

The back of this jersey has “CARLTON” sewn on in maroon and white tackle twill on a matching powder blue nameplate and the number “32” is sewn below the name in maroon and white tackle twill. The raglan sleeves have maroon and white stripes running vertically from the collar to the sleeve ends and the same maroon and white stripes also run down each side. This jersey displays light game use and all of the letters and numbers are original to the jersey. Carlton has signed his name in black marker on the front of the jersey below the “P” and inscribed “All time N.L.  K Leader 3,118 9/21/81 Your Friend”. This jersey comes with an SGC Authentication book detailing the authenticity of this jersey and giving it its highest grade of Superior. There is also a LOA from Beckett Authentication for the signature.
