Thomas “Hit Man” Hearns' tall and slender build allowed him to move up over 50 pounds in his career to become the first boxer in history to win world titles in four weight divisions: welterweight, light middleweight, middleweight, and light heavyweight. By later winning a super middleweight title, he also became the first to win world titles in five weight divisions.
This is a pre-printed one-page, one-sided form from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, an Application for Renewal of Boxer’s License, with black ink on blue paper. The words “Nevada State Athletic Commission” appear in block letters on the top left, while the name of “Robert List, Governor” and the “Seal of the State of Nevada” appear on the top right. The fee for the application is pre-printed as $5. Hearns has completed the form in blue ballpoint pen, and it is signed and dated 9-6-81. At the time he submitted this form, Hearns was 32-0 lifetime and in training for the welterweight championship unification fight with Sugar Ray Leonard. On September 16, 1981, Hearns suffered the first loss of his career when Leonard scored a TKO in the 14th round. This item comes with a PSA/DNA COA (AC83583).
