Willie Randolph was a standout player for the New York Yankees. A member of the 1977 and 1978 World Series-winning teams, Randolph was a steady presence at second base and at the plate. Randolph finished his career with 2,210 hits. Throughout his distinguished career, Randolph received many awards and in 1982, Randolph was presented with the Joan W. Payson Special Achievement Award for the 1982 season. This offered award measures 11 ½ inches tall and has a silver trophy on top of 5 ½ x 5 ¼ x 3 ½-inch black base. A silver plate on the front reads “JOAN W. PAYSON SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD TO WILLIE RANDOLPH N.Y. BASEBALL WRITERS JANUARY 31, 1982”. This award comes from the collection of Willie Randolph and a signed LOA from Randolph will also accompany this item.
