1982 was all-Rickey Henderson. That season the Oakland A’s speedster did the unthinkable when he smashed Lou Brock’s single season stolen base record and set the bar with 130 steals – a number still unsurpassed. 1982 also saw Rickey lead the league in walks, mostly due to his new exaggerated crouch batting stance – one sports writers said that it made Henderson’s strike zone “smaller than Hitler’s heart”.
This Louisville Slugger H253 model bat dates to Rickey’s record-setting season. The bat is un-cracked and shows outstanding use. Slight checking from repeated ball contact is present on the barrel along with ball marks and blue ink transfers. Rickey’s number “35” is written on the knob in black on white marker. Henderson has signed the barrel in gold pen, completing this outstanding looking gamer. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B14106) for the game use and has been graded a GU 9 and a LOA from JSA for the signature.
