Led by manager Johnny Oates, the Columbus Clippers - the AAA affiliate of the New York Yankees – finished 1st in the International League in 1983 with a record of 83-57. 22-year-old Don Mattingly batted .340 with a .437 on-base percentage, Otis Nixon swiped 94 bases (and added 96 walks), Rex Hudler hit .305, and Steve Balboni clubbed 27 home runs in just 84 games. Dennis Rasmussen led the pitching staff with 13 wins.
Offered here is a 10K gold 1983 Columbus Clippers International League Championship ring, manufactured by Jenkins. A large round CZ is set on the Yankees “NY” logo, with a blue stone as the backdrop. Around the bezel setting reads “INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS” with two images of baseballs. The left shank is centered by a Yankees logo, with the name “LERNER” above and the word “PRIDE” below. Appearing on the opposite shank is the Clippers logo, with “CLIPPERS” on top and “1983” at the bottom. The ring is an approximate size 11 1/2 and it weighs approximately 31.3 grams.
