This Official American League Lee MacPhail baseball was used on August 8th, 1983, during the Oakland Athletics 4-2 home loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The A’s Hall of Fame leadoff man, Rickey Henderson, hit this ball for a solo home run against Brewers twirler Mike Caldwell in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the score to 4-2. This was Henderson’s seventh longball of the year and the 33rd of his career. Henderson, who went 2-4 in this game, finished the 1983 season with a .292 batting average, nine round trippers, 48 RBI, and an MLB-best 108 stolen bases. This MacPhail baseball shows heavy use. Mike Caldwell has signed the panel to the south of the sweet spot, inscribing “8-28-83 Ricky [sic] Henderson HR #7 Ball Oakland Coliseum”. He signed his name beneath his inscription. This ball comes with a LOA from MEARS for the use and a COA from JSA (V07893) for Caldwell’s signature.
