This lot closes on June 27, 2021 at 10:00 PM EDT for initial bids. In the 1980's no one was a better hitter than Boston's Wade Boggs. Season after season it seemed like the Red Sox superstar was going to finish the season above the .400 mark. His bat gave Boston fans something to look forward to each spring as he quickly made his way towards the 3,000 Hit Club. 1983 saw Boggs win the American League batting title for the first time in his career. It also started a run of five batting titles in six seasons as dominated American League pitching for the rest of the decade.
Presented here is a home white Boston Red Sox uniform – jersey and pants, worn by the Hall of Famer Wade Boggs during the 1983 season. The white button-down jersey was made by Wilson and is a size 42. “RED SOX” is sewn on and arched across the chest in Tuscan font red and navy tackle twill. Red soutache piping runs around the collar and down both sides of the buttons. The inner placket has an off-white soft material lining for player comfort and the Wilson size 42 tag, along with a white patch with “83” embroidered in black” are sewn on the front left tail. Boggs’ number “26” is sewn on the back in red and navy tackle twill McAuliffe-style font. The jersey displays excellent game use and has been signed by Boggs in blue marker on the front right tail.
The matching white game pants were also manufactured by Wilson have a single red soutache piping stripe down each outside leg. The inner waistline has Wilson tag in the center with a “33” embroidered in black – indicating the waist size, while the to the left of that tag is a white patch with “26 23” embroidered in black (size and inseam), while to the right is another white patch with “83” embroidered in black for the year. These pants display outstanding game use with dirt stains and team repairs. Boggs has signed these pants in blue marker on the upper right thigh. This uniform set, jersey and pants, comes with a LOA from noted baseball game used jersey expert William Henderson (21-0425JP01) for the game use and a LOA from Beckett Authentication for the signature.
