Oklahoma Sooners big man Wayman Tisdale was already a superstar by the time his sophomore season rolled around. Tisdale claimed the Big 8 Conference Player of the Year Award in his freshman season (and would repeat in both his sophomore and junior years), while also making the consensus First Team All-America squad (again, a feat he would replicate in his final two seasons). However, it was during a December 28th, 1983 contest against the University of Texas-San Antonio that Tisdale cemented his legacy as a college basketball legend.

Tisdale set a new Big 8 record for points in a game, breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s 27-year-old record of 52 points by dropping 61 against an excellent Roadrunners team. Tisdale set a new Big 8 record with 24 field goals made and set a new career high with 22 rebounds. After the game, Tisdale was quoted as saying “Wilt Chamberlain is a guy I've admired for as long as I've remembered. I consider Chamberlain to be the greatest player to ever play”, illustrating the magnitude of his spectacular accomplishment.

This Rawlings basketball, which features a Sooners covered wagon logo, has two white painted panels. On those panels, “Wayman Tisdale / 12-28-83 / All College Tournament / OU vs Texas/San Antonio / 61 Points Big-8 Record” is painted in red. This basketball comes with a LOA from Regina Tisdale, the wife of the late Wayman Tisdale and a LOA from MEARS (316394).
