Up until 1985, The Lakers’ franchise both in Minneapolis and Los Angeles could not defeat the Boston Celtics in the finals. In eight previous meetings, the Celtics won every matchup en route to 15 overall titles. Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was already a title winner before the 1984-85 season, once with Milwaukee in 1971 and twice with the Lakers in 1980 and 1982. However, Kareem and the Lakers were able to defeat their nemesis, the Boston Celtics 4-2 in the 1985 NBA Finals, thanks to Abdul-Jabbar’s MVP performance.

Kareem was presented this award for his play in the NBA Finals against the Celtics. This award measures 9 ½ x 10 inches at the base and is 24 inches high. The base is an all-black composite that runs approximately 13 inches high and has a silver basketball on an angle mounted on the top. The silver plate reads “NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION AND SPORT MAGAZINE’S MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARD 1984-1985 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR LOS ANGELES LAKERS”. This award is overall good condition with minor tarnishing on the silver plate and on the lettering. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
