Presented here is a baseball used during the Kansas City Royals 5-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers at Tiger Stadium on April 19th, 1984. Future Cy Young Award winner Bret Saberhagen won his first major league game that afternoon, pitching six innings of one run ball. Ace reliever Dan Quisenberry tossed the final three innings of the game, earning his fifth save of the 1984 season.
This Official American League Lee MacPhail baseball has Saberhagen’s signature to the left of MacPhail’s stamped signature. Saberhagen has inscribed “Detroit-2 Royals-5 1st Maj. League Win” and “6 inn. 1 Run 2 Walk 4 K’s 6 Hits 4/19/84” vertically down the sweet spot of this ball. He used a black pen to sign his name and write the inscription. This item comes with a LOA from Saberhagen.
