The 1984 team was considered one of the strongest amateur teams ever fielded by the United States and consisted of a cour four of Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Sam Perkins, and Wayman Tisdale. The Olympics were seen as Jordan’s coming out party, and the prolific scorer led the US squad in points during the tournament. The cover features runner Mary Decker and is labeled “LIFE SPECIAL ISSUE” on the top right corner, with “LIFE” appearing in white on red background and “SPECIAL ISSUE” appearing across in black with a yellow background. “OLYMPICS” is featured on the bottom in black. The four members of the 1984 Men’s Baskteball team signed a photo spread that features a leaping Jordan approaching a basketball net as the sun beams bright in the sky. Michael Jordan, Joe Kleine, Vern Fleming, and Steve Alford signed the spread in blue ink. The signatures are bold, and the magazine features typical wear of a read magazine that contains wear on the spine, curled corners, and early toning of the pages.
