Before the sport of baseball became a medal status event, it was begun as a demonstration sport. Although individual games had been played in prior Olympics, the 1984 Summer Games held in Los Angeles was the first time baseball was played as an complete event. The United States placed second in the eight team field, losing to Japan 6-3 in the finals. Bob Whiting is an American author, who moved to Japan in the 1960s and still resides there, has written extensively about Japanese baseball. This Balfour 10K gold ring has a single diamond set within a red stone with "1984 OLYMPIC BASEBALL" in raised relief on the perimeter. The one shank has the Olympic baseball logo with "AINBA" and the year "1984" below. The other shank has the Olympic Rings, and the city name "LOS ANGELES" scripted above the year "1984". This size 10.5 ring weighs 24 grams, and has "BALFOUR 10K" and the name "Bob Whiting" engraved within the band. A very nice ring from the first ever Olympic games which baseball was a complete participation event. LOA from well known ring expert Scott Welkowsky.
