Hall of Famer George Brett was the heart and soul of the great Kansas City Royals teams of the late 1970s and early 1980s. After being thwarted by the New York Yankees in the 1970s and the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1980 World Series, Brett and the Royals finally reached the apex of the baseball world when they captured the 1985 World Series title from their cross-state rival St. Louis Cardinals. 1985 saw Brett set a career high in home runs with 30, while adding 112 RBI and a lofty .335 average. Offered here is one of the bats used by Brett during the championship season of 1985, plus 1986. Brett’s Louisville Slugger B390 model bat displays excellent game use and is un-cracked. There are ball marks, stitch impressions, blue ink transfers and blue bat rack streaks present on the barrel. No Brett gamer would be complete without some pine tar and this bat has a moderate coating of said pine tar on the upper handle. The knob has “GB 5” handwritten in black marker and the Hall of Famer has added his signature to the barrel in black marker with the inscription “Mike My Best”. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B19072), who have given this bat a high grade of GU 8. Please note that PSA/DNA notes in their LOA “The knob notation “GB5” is a bit different from the larger and bolder “GB5’s” we see on bats of George Brett. In our opinion, GB5 could have been added by “Mike” after the bat was obtained.” Additionally, there is a LOA from Beckett Authentication for the signature. Please note that this item was recently authenticated by Beckett Authentication. An LOA will be pictured in this lot when it is received in our office and will be shipped to the winner.
