Patrick Ewing was simply the most dominant college player of his generation. The seven-foot center and his Georgetown Hoyas appeared in three NCAA finals during his four years and won the National Championship in 1984. Only defeats to a star-laden North Carolina team of 1982 which featured stars like Michael Jordan and James worthy and the gritty Villanova team of 1985 prevented Ewing and Georgetown from a championship run unseen since the UCLA teams under John Wooden.

Coinciding with Patrick Ewing’s dominance in 1985 was the NBA’s decision to go to a draft lottery for teams not making the playoffs, instead of the combination of territorial picks, reverse record order and even a coin flip in some cases. Ewing became the “prize” for the first ever NBA Draft lottery and winning the draft lottery was the New York Knicks, who took Ewing with the first overall selection. Including Ewing, the 1985 draft saw five future Hall of Famers drafted with Chris Mullin, Karl Malone, Joe Dumars and Arvydas Sabonis all selected.

Offered is the very New York Knicks home jersey Ewing wore during his rookie season of 1985-86, a season in which he would go on to win the Rookie of the Year Award. This size 46 cream colored Medalist Sand-Knit mesh jersey was manufactured by Gerry Cosby Athletic Outfitters & Co of New York, NY. “NEW YORK” and “33” are sewn on the front in bright orange and blue tackle twill. The back of the jersey has “33” sewn on in the same orange and blue tackle twill combination and “EWING” sewn on in blue. The collar and sleeve ends are capped with a blue and orange ribbed material and the “Cosby” tag is sewn on the inside back collar. The bottom front left tail has a matching off-white “2” LB” swatch and two tags that read “Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the New York Knicks NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION medalist Sand Knit” and “Medalist Sand-Knit 46” Berlin, WI U.S.A.”. The jersey displays moderate wear with staining on the under arms, shoulder straps and lower back. This very rare rookie jersey from one of the games’ greatest players comes with a full LOA from Mears, who have graded this jersey a perfect A10 (315634).
