In 1985 there was no better pitcher than Dwight Gooden. At just 20 years-old, Gooden finished his second season in the majors with a 24-4 record and an ERA of 1.53. He led the majors with 268 strikeouts, earning the nickname “Doctor K” from ecstatic Mets fans. Eight of the sixteen complete games he pitched that summer were shutouts, making the vote for the 1985 Cy Young Award just a formality. Doc’s 1985 Rawlings 113A model bat shows excellent game use with a crack on the handle. The barrel shows several ball marks and scuffs and his famous number “16” has been handwritten on both ends. A nice gamer from one of the best seasons ever recorded by a pitcher in the modern era. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B17125) for the game use and has been graded a solid GU 8.5.
