Dwight Gooden’s 1985 season stands as one of the best pitched campaigns in baseball history. Gooden, at only 20-years old and in his second MLB season, was absolutely lights out for the New York Mets. The young Floridian finished the year with a 24-4 record and an ERA of 1.53. Gooden handily won the NL Cy Young award and struck out 268 batters, the most in the majors. Gooden pitched 16 complete games, eight of them shutouts, and wholly dominated every poor sap that came to the plate in 1985.

Offered here is Gooden’s 1985 Seagram Sports Award acknowledging Gooden as the 1985 “Baseball Champion”. This award is constructed of a metal cylinder topped by a silver metal “S” for a total height of approximately 26.5 inches. The base of the trophy is six inches in diameter. Etched on the center of the trophy is “Seagram Sports Award Baseball Champion 1985 Dwight Gooden”. Seven raised crests featuring images of different sports are affixed to the upper cylinder. This unique trophy is in fine condition and is a tremendous artifact from one of the most dominant seasons in MLB history.
