Abdul-Jabbar’s Lakers matched up against their hated rivals, the Boston Celtics, in a classic NBA Finals matchup with a little mean streak. The Lakers, led by the “Showtime” trio of Magic Johnson, Abdul-Jabbar, and James Worthy, were an offensive juggernaut during this six-game NBA Finals.

Abdul-Jabbar, Johnson, and Worthy all averaged over 20 points per game during these finals, with the 39-year old Abdul-Jabbar contributing 21.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Abdul-Jabbar’s best game of the series came in the clinching sixth game, when he led the Lakers with 32 points on 13-18 shooting in the Lakers 106-93 victory. Magic Johnson claimed the Finals MVP award after averaging a double-double of 26.2 points and 13 assists per game.
