“The Prince of Mid-Air” World B. Free wore this red Philadelphia 76ers jersey during his second spell with the NBA squad from the City of Brotherly Love. Drafted by the Sixers in the second round of the 1975 NBA Draft, the player known then as “Lloyd Free” played his first three NBA seasons in Philadelphia. After spending several seasons with the San Diego Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Golden State Warriors, the 1978-79 All-NBA Second Teamer rejoined the Sixers in the middle of the 1986-87 season. Free provided veteran leadership and a deft scoring touch from the bench for the Sixers, who finished the season with a playoff loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Along with fellow vets Julius “Dr. J” Irving and Maurice Cheeks, Free helped the team transition from the Erving era to the Charles Barkley era. A third year player, the 23 year old power forward from Auburn averaged 23 points and 14.6 rebounds per game for the Sixers in 86-87. After 20 games with the Sixers, Free was released to make way for Andrew Toney as the younger two-guard returned from injury. From there, Free signed with the Miami Tropics of the USBL before joining the Houston Rockets for one final NBA season.
This red size “42” jersey has “SIXERS” sewn across the front in white-on-blue tackle twill. Free’s number “12”, an inversion of his customary number “21”, is sewn on the front and back of the jersey in white-on-blue tackle twill. “FREE” is sewn across the back shoulders in white tackle twill. The sleeve and collar openings on this jersey are bordered by a red, white, and blue band. Two MacGregor Sand-Knit tags are sewn on the bottom of this jersey, along with “1” LB” and “86” tags. This jersey shows light to moderate signs of game use. This item comes with a LOA from Sandee Free.
