During the years he used this bat, Donny Baseball was in the midst of one of the greatest offensive stretches in Yankee history. In 1986, he led the American League in hits and doubles, his tally that year also breaking franchise records set by Earle Combs and Lou Gehrig respectively. The following year he hit a record six grand slam homers in one season and hit homers in eight consecutive games.
Mattingly often printed the retired numbers of the Yankees greats on his bat for luck, and this example bears the number “5” worn by Joe DiMaggio. This Louisville Slugger T141 model bat displays outstanding use and is un-cracked. Many ball marks are on the barrel along with blue ink transfers and white leather ball scuffs. Blue and bat rack paint streaks are on all sides and cleat imprints are located on the left, right and back barrel. A heavy coat of pine tar is on the handle and a ring of adhesive tape to enhance the grip is on the knob and lower handle to enhance the grip. DiMaggio’s number “5” is written on the knob end in black marker and Mattingly has signed the barrel in black marker. A great gamer with all the bells and whistles from Donny Baseball’s prime years in the Big Apple. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B08248) for the game use and has been graded a perfect GU 10 and a COA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication for the signature.
