Offered is Nick Anderson’s 1986 Chicago Tribune “Mr. Basketball of Illinois” trophy. The gold metal, brown wood and black wood 8½ x 8½ x 20-inch trophy includes a 14-inch gold metal basketball mounted on a pedestal. Please note that the basketball has a 1¼-inch circle on the front where the finish has worn off. On the front of the base is a 4 x 6½-inch gold metal plaque engraved in black with the logo “Mr. Basketball of Illinois Chicago Tribune & IBCA” at the left inside a geographic outline of the state of Illinois. At the right is engraved, in black, “Mr. Basketball of Illinois 1986 Nelison Anderson Simeon H.S.”. The back left, front left and front right corners of the black wood base are worn at the edges. Born in Chicago, Anderson played high school basketball at Simeon Career Academy where he was named "Illinois Mr. Basketball" for 1986 after leading his team to the city championship and a top national ranking in USA Today. Anderson was the sixth recipient of the Mr. Basketball award, presented by the Chicago Tribune in conjunction with the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.
