For more than a decade, Lawrence Taylor was the greatest defensive player in the game. LT led the “Big Blue Wrecking Crew” that helped the Giants win two Super Bowls, and Taylor himself was a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and the 1986 NFL MVP. Among the accolades heaped on him after the 1986 Championship season was the Mackey Award for best linebacker of the year. This 14-inch tall award features an Art Deco player perched defiantly atop a black base with an engraved plaque reading: “LAWRENCE TAYLOR NEW YORK GIANTS NFC LINEBACKER OF THE YEAR 1987 MACKEY AWARD NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE.” The award shows some wear from age including several abrasions to the figure and base. A tremendous acknowledgement of Taylor’s position as the greatest defensive player of his era.
